Elton John – A Single Man

Nice remastering, nice soundscape, good pressing for two great songs : Song For Guy and It Ain't Gonna Be Easy.

This is worth buying for I Cry At Night a bonus track with just Elton and piano.

My version is a Pic Disc Inc. format. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Nashville's Fitzgerald-Hartley management company, owned by Mark Hartley and Larry Fitzgerald. They specialized in pressing picture discs from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. They were exclusive assignees of the patent by which picture discs were made. The Pic Disc picture-disc Lp and 45, as well as the Trick Disc shaped picture disc were found on issues from bands as diverse as Paul McCartney and Iron Maiden.

Ok, so I finally broke down and bought this as an Elton completist. There is absolutely nothing here to justify replacing a VG+ 70's pressing with this 2022 reissue. On top of that, the hype sticker was placed directly on the jacket on my copy as opposed to the shrink. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?! I do not feel that these 2022 remasters are at the same quality as the previous Bob Ludwig remasters. In terms of the recurring excessive bass complaint that mr frosty keeps mentioning, however, I am not experiencing that on any of the 2022 reissues (and reissue as opposed to remaster would be more appropriate marketing).

nothing terribly wrong but not good either. Compared to german pressing, sounds sometimes to „sharp“ on the strings, elton‘s voice is less forward then on the early pressing.

Of all these 2022 reissues, this is the only one that really stands out as good. In fact it's really good. I was never a huge fan of this album until I listened to it on vinyl and heard all the detail. This pressing is almost as good as the original 1970s pressing s. It's clean, crisp sound brings out all the detail. For some reason they decided not to destroy this reissue with excessive bass, as done on the other 2022 reissues.

Vinyl is pretty bad. My NM copy is noisy during quiet sections. However, the sound quality is really great. Thankfully almost all US MCA Elton pressings that came out after Caribou, sound really good. This record is fairly underrated and it's dirt cheap.

I have a export version of this. The A side, Eltons feet and cane are visible The B side is Elton in the car, so a sort of cross between Promo & commercial version.

Extremely rare to find an audio cassette on Balkanton, intended only for duty-free Corecom stores during socialism and for export, but never released on the domestic market in this form!
