- Took a look at this again, and my opinion hasn't changed. As I said before, just average, and sometimes borderline boring sound quality, that's immediately blown out of the water by a UK original. Also, the channels are inverted and the whole album is mastered slightly too fast, not doing any favor to the tracks, particularly Lady What's Tomorrow.

I have this German pressing. The condition is exceptional and looks like it’s only never been played.- Ignore the reviews that trash this album, because this album is a wonderful listen from start to finish, and just as enjoyable as the likes of Honky Chateau and Yellow Brick Road. Also, the "no forgotten gems" critique simply isn't correct, with absolute rockers like the title track, Western Ford Gateway, and Sails in mind, as well as ballads like Lady What's Tomorrow, Hymn 2000, and an early version of Skyline Pigeon as well. Elton's voice is a bit more mellow here, and doesn't have the massive range he would later gain with Madman Across The Water, but is still great nonetheless. The original UK pressing of this album is also incredible sounding, and surprisingly easy to find for pennies. Absolutely recommended.
- Great record of Mr Elton John, my record is a black vinyl but appears beautiful "Yellow color" translucent under strong light, it is not red or green.
- Wicked sounding LP, intimate as hell, with Elton 'right there' dead-center in the soundstage. Holographic as all get-out, with outstanding clarity as well.
- I love this album. Particularly Empty Sky and Sails. Just amazing how they rock!! Too bad they were not big successes. They should have been. Ahead of their time maybe? Imagine in a show!!

Is it really the first French edition?
The cover seems to be English.- Just found this gem. It's really amazing to hear him and Taupin before they found their commercial groove. Really enjoyable songs and lyrically on it's way to maturity. Who knew harpsichord was cool! Definitely worth a deep listen.
- One of his best albums it’s so raw and has a feeling not many albums have I love his vocals and sound
- Edited 2 years agoWhat ‘Empty Sky’ lacks in snappy pop hits emblematic of Elton John, it makes up for by delivering a welcome blend of moody and melodic, even psychedelic sounds of 1969. (Note: ‘Empty Sky’ was reissued in 1975.) Regardless of which version you’re listening to, this album is heady.
‘Empty Sky’ is part Dylan, part Stones, part Floyd, part Velvet Underground, part Jethro Tull, and all heart. It listens somewhere between a love letter to his contemporaries and a warning that Elton John is about to take the world by storm.
